Nose Reshaping, Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Having nose correction surgery (Rhinoplasty) can dramatically improve your self-esteem. Having your nose reshaped by bringing all the features of your face into better proportion and harmony, will create your new appearance that you will be proud of. Nose surgery can also address virtually any cosmetic and some functional issues you may have with your nose.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. (Another common term for this is “nose job.”) Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.

How is the rhinoplasty (“nose job”) procedure performed?

There are two basic methods that Dr. Bennett Yang used to perform nose surgery.

Open Rhinoplasty:

A closed nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) procedure is performed then the site of incision and all surgery will all be internal, rather than external. Through these internal incisions, the cartilage can be sculpted, excess tissue eliminated, and the shape/size of the nostrils adjusted. After the corrections are complete, dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. No visible scarring occurs with a Closed Rhinoplasty. The drawback to this technique is a limited access to the nasal structures, not allowing extensive nose correction.

Dr. Yang tries to use the closed technique for the majority of his nose correction procedures, only using the open technique for patients that need revision rhinoplasty, increasing the tip of their nose definition, or correcting an overall structural problem – example a crooked nose. The closed nose shaping (rhinoplasty) procedure works best for patients with thin to medium skin thickness, while the open procedure is often the more suitable option for patients with increased skin thickness.

Most rhinoplasty procedures are done under general anesthesia. Nose Surgery usually takes between one and three hours to complete, depending on the extent of correction and techniques used.

There are benefits associated with both nose surgery methods and a comprehensive consultation is necessary to determine which method would be most appropriate for your specific nose surgery needs.
